Highly Qualified & Certification
Individuals employed in positions requiring South Carolina Certification are responsible for ensuring their certificates are valid. In addition, all teachers who provide primary instruction in the core academic areas, as well as those teachers who were hired to reduce class size and whose salaries are paid through the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Improving Teacher Quality Grant funds must be Highly Qualified.
The Aiken County Public School District’s Certificate Renewal Plan, contains information and forms to help guide educators through the process of renewing their certification.
Renewal credits (120) must be earned within the five year validity period of the certificate, as outlined in the Renewal Credit Matrix.
Aiken County Public School District currently employs 91 educators who have earned this distinction. Each new successful candidate is awarded $5,000 from the state based on recent legislation. Note: Teachers who earned NBC when the state stipend amount was set at $7,500 will continue to receive this for the duration of the 10-year certification period.
